The Goal

This image was made while hiking the John Muir Trail. The last bit of the John Muir Trail to the summit of Mt Whitney is spectacular. At points long the ridge you can peak through windows to the east side. This was one of our first good looks at the summit, the goal we had been walking toward for the last two weeks.

Stunning view!

did you climbed that?

@KriKridesign: Yes. We didn't climb up this steep face (although it is actually a fairly easy climb). We walked around it on a really mellow ledge system.

ohhh...this face looks interresting to climb anyway! Perhaps next time?!!!

Impressive detail. Wish you had a point of reference to understand the dimension. Must have been a beautiful and challenging hike.

@Hilde Morin: You may be right, but a point of reference here was difficult. There were no trees, and I took this shot perched in a little window on a ridge with 1,000 feet of air on the other side. To get a person in this shot I would have needed someone who could fly. However, I also like pictures without a point of reference. It leaves size up to the imagination. Thanks for the comment.
