Snow on BrycePosted by Rand (Laie, United States) on 8 June 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. I love long lenses. When I first started getting serious about photography, I tended to keep my wide angle lens on my camera for all my scenics. However, I find more often than not that my favorite images are not the grand scenics taken with a wide angle. Rather I prefer the shots in which I use a telephoto lens to isolate one specific pattern. The image above was taken at dawn in Bryce Canyon near sunset point (which ironically is the my favorite place to make sunrise images). The canyon rim was packed with photographers waiting for the sun to light up the incredible Bryce Amphitheater, and like all the rest of the crowd I started out with a wide angle lens and took the typical post card shot of the canyon. There were some nice images. But then I ditched my wide angle and slapped on the telephoto. I zoomed in on specific sections of the canyon, and in my opinion, these "close up" shots are far more powerful than the wide angle images.

With the telephoto lens we can really appreciate and enjoy all the textures you've got here! The colors are fabulous, too! 10 Jun 2009 12:25am |
